Day 27 of 75 Soft: Finding My Rhythm (Even When It Changes)

Day 27 feels like one of those “adjustment” days—where I’m not just going through the motions, but actually learning what works best for me and my routine right now.

Today, I went swimming, and honestly, I’m really starting to enjoy having that as part of my routine. There’s something about being in the water that feels refreshing in a completely different way than walking. It gives my body a break from impact while still pushing me to move, and mentally, it just resets everything.

With that in mind, I made a small but important decision: I’m going to wear my 10 lb weighted vest only on the days that I don’t swim.

The reason is actually pretty simple—my routine. I usually swim around 1 PM for 30 minutes, and I always like to shower afterward. But the same goes for when I wear my weighted vest… because let’s be real, that thing makes me sweat. Not in the light “beads of sweat” kind of way, but the kind where my shirt is soaked—mostly because the weight is pressed against both my front and back, trapping heat and intensifying everything.

So instead of doubling up and feeling like I need two showers in one day, I’m separating the two:

  • Swim days = pool + shower
  • Non-swim days = weighted vest + sweat + shower

It just makes my routine feel more manageable and honestly more enjoyable.

Another thing on my mind today… as much as I am loving California, I’ve been feeling a little homesick for my routine back in Washington. Not just the place—but my setup. I really miss my walking pad and my vibration plate. Those were things I invested in last year, and I didn’t even get a real chance to use them because of my injury.

When we packed up for this 6-month trip, we had to make choices, and those just weren’t practical to bring—they’re big, heavy, and now sitting in a storage unit waiting for me. It’s kind of ironic… the tools I was most excited to use are the ones I’ve had to wait the longest for.

But at the same time, this journey is teaching me something important:
I don’t need perfect conditions to keep going.

I’ve adjusted. I’ve adapted. I’ve found new ways to move, new routines, and new strengths I didn’t know I had. And when I do get back to Washington? I already know I’m going to come back stronger—with even more tools in my routine.

For now, I’ll keep showing up, one day at a time.
Day 27 is done ✔️
